I routed mine from the test pipes up through the shifter boot as well, I don't have too much in-cabin noise. I only notched the boot in very specific spots. Still fits and clips in nicely. I have my gauges in the 300 degree DIN so the wire tuck was easy there. I would def suggest that spot because you could also easily differentiate left from right bank by simply placing the PS on the right and DS on the left. Very simple but really effective.
